The BodyGuard uses catalytic carbon and KDF media to remove chlorine, chloramines, chlorine byproducts (trihalomethanes), pesticides, herbicides, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These are the chemicals your municipal water treatment plant adds to disinfect the supply — they don’t go away on their own by the time water reaches your tap. The BodyGuard stage eliminates them whole-home, before they reach any fixture, appliance, or shower.
The GreenWave uses Template Assisted Crystallization (TAC) technology to neutralize hard water minerals. Calcium and magnesium pass through NSS media where they’re converted into stable aragonite crystals — a physical form that can’t bond to pipe walls, heating elements, or fixture surfaces. Your water still tests as “hard” (the minerals are still there), but they can no longer cause scale damage. The process also gradually dissolves existing scale buildup in your plumbing over time.
They solve different problems. The BodyGuard removes chemical contamination from your water supply. The GreenWave prevents scale from hard minerals. Neither one does the other’s job — a GreenWave alone won’t help with chlorine taste or chemical exposure, and a BodyGuard alone won’t prevent scale buildup. Buying them together as a combo is also more cost-effective than purchasing and installing them separately.

For scale prevention and appliance protection, yes — the GreenWave handles that without salt. For mineral removal specifically, no — a traditional softener actually removes calcium and magnesium from your water, while the GreenWave converts them into a harmless form but leaves them in the water.
